Music Spa

Prioritizing wellness is essential for living a balanced life, yet there is a perceived lack of access to resources for stress management and relaxation. Live music however, is a captivating, immersive experience that can provide personal benefits and a sense of well-being. Seeking to capitalize on these benefits, Alex Marthaler and I conceptualized “The Music Spa”, an innovative experience that prioritizes comfort and wellness to provide both healing and entertainment.

Tranquillo Music Spa is a therapeutic and immersive concert experience designed to relieve stress by combining high-level musical performances with carefully selected spa amenities. Tranquillo uses an innovative, pop-up performance space that transforms any location instantly into a comfortable concert hall. Live classical music and soothing amenities are paired to create a full-sensory experience that invites guests to share space and energy with the musicians, creating a sense of connection and collective joy. Guests leave the carefully-designed experience feeling relaxed and refreshed after their visit.

After co-writing a proposal, we were awarded a $2,500 ProSEED/Crosswalk Grant in December of 2015. Originally intended to build connections between doctors and patients in cancer treatment centers, the Music Spa has since existed in many iterations. The project evolved to tackle the issue of student stress culture, and we hosted numerous sessions, both indoor and outdoor, on Carnegie Mellon’s campus as part of the wellness initiatives led by Angie Lusk, Program Director for Student Affairs Wellness Initiatives. We then expanded to host sessions during the Carnegie Museum of Art’s seasonal Wellness Weekends. We are currently in the process of establishing an LLC, hoping to offer The Music Spa experience to a broader audience.
